The two terms are often used interchangeably. A pillow insert is the inner pillow that sits inside your pillowcase, while a down pillow refers to the type of filling inside it. Our down pillow at Sunday Bedding combines a soft outer layer filled with recycled white duck down and feathers with a supportive inner core.

Both down and feathers come from ducks or geese, but they don't feel the same. Down is made up of soft, fluffy clusters found beneath the outer feathers, giving it that light, cloud-like softness pillows are loved for. Feathers, on the other hand, are the stiffer outer plumes, giving a firmer feel that also tends to flatten more quickly over time. Down holds its loft for longer, which is part of why it comes at a more premium price point.

Instead of using a single filling, this design combines a removable outer pillow filled with 75% recycled white duck down and 25% feathers, along with a 100% recycled polyester inner core.  The result is a pillow that feels plush while offering a little more structure.

Loft simply describes the height of a pillow once it's fully fluffed. The right loft comes down to how you sleep and how much support feels comfortable for you.

The easiest way to care for your pillow is to follow the washing instructions provided. Since it comes with a removable outer down layer, make sure this is separated from the inner core before washing. You can wash the outer layer on its own without needing to wash the inner core as frequently, since it stays covered and protected. If you do wash it, make sure it's completely dry before using it again, as trapped moisture can affect the down filling.

Fluff your pillow regularly to help restore its loft. The removable outer pillow is machine washable, simply follow the care instructions provided and ensure it's completely dry before using it again.
