Towel Care 101

Washing your towels may sound pretty simple, but we’re all for making our purchases last as long as possible. While towels are generally pretty easy to care for, we’ve assembled a few tips and things to expect when using your towels.

1) Your First Wash

Your towel may feel different after your first wash. Fret not, as the cotton fibres typically ‘open up’ after the first wash and dry cycle. This ensures maximum absorbency so that your towel is ready to soak up all that excess water when you wipe down from your next bath.

2) Wash and Dry

We recommend washing your towels every week. Avoid silicon-based detergents or softeners as this reduces absorbency overtime. A natural liquid detergent is always preferred to maintain the lifespan of your towels. Interestingly, unlike bedding, drying your towels in a dryer will make them feel softer, just like the towels you get at a hotel. Nevertheless, we advocate line drying your towels since it is energy-saving and a more sustainable option.

3) Avoid Softeners

Even the best towels may feel coarse after years of use. The coarseness you experience in old towels is the result of residue build-up from soap and detergent. While it might be tempting to add softeners for a quick-fix, waxy build up from softeners can reduce the absorbency of your towels.

4) Vinegar

Add half a cup of white vinegar to your wash to get rid of the build-up. Do this once your towels start feeling a little coarse to soften the towels without the use of softeners.

5) Pulled Threads

All Sunday towels are woven and a pulled thread will not unravel the towel. Simply cut off the pulled loop with pair of scissors and you’re good to go!

6) Some Other Useful Information...

Avoid towels with decorative trims. While they may add a design element to your bathroom, the delicate trimmings or embroidery are more subject to wear and tear over time.
